Story: Why I Love Toronto
-DilysTong

Being a young entrepreneur of Chinese descent, eager to start a new life outside of Edmonton, Alberta, I wanted to ensure I picked a place that would embrace my creative talents, culture and lifestyle - Toronto was my dream come true.

I had recently finished my studies in fashion and design, and always thought Toronto was so fashion forward with its unique boutiques and fashion district. Barely knowing a soul, I set up shop near Yonge and Eglinton and was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding number of people interested in DIY (do-it-yourself) and fashion. I was even more thrilled with the generosity and camaraderie of other local small businesses, as we shared stories and helped each other flourish in any way that we could.

Friendships seemed to come very easily, possibly because Torontonians are so culturally diverse and accepting or simply just welcoming and kind. Either way, my transition from Edmonton was easy largely because of this, and with my business and social circle well underway, the only thing left to make Toronto feel like home was to explore the rest of the city.

With the TTC conveniently located close by, I was eager to map out excursions and choose a new adventure each weekend. From the gorgeous parks, hiking trails and beaches that are only a stones throw away, to Toronto’s charming neighbourhoods including my favorites: Leslieville and Yorkville, I found there was never a dull moment. Of course, all the festivals and the abundance of restaurants and lounges throughout the city fulfilled my love of socializing and nightlife. Where else could a girl want to live?

In Toronto, there is always reason to celebrate, whether it is the arts, culture or life! The vibrancy and positive energy of Toronto are second to none, and I have never once regretted my decision to live here. I look forward to many more years in this great city and wish Toronto on its 175th birthday all the success and happiness it gave me!
