Rawalpindi
Story: as i walk along the road-Mahreen

As I walk through the busy Mall road, leaving behind the laziness at home I realize that a whole new world welcomes me every day. It gives me a feeling of being alive and very much being a part of rest of the world. People rushing towards their destinations, gives a feeling that after a long sound sleep the city has finally come to life again. I have been walking on the footpath of this busiest road of the city from past three and a half years and now it has become an important part of my life. Rawalpindi is not a madhouse like Lahore or Karachi nor it is quiet like Islamabad, it comes somewhere in the middle. The days are busy and full of life while the evenings are a little calmer. Each passing day leaves a mark on our lives. The hot summers and breezy winters make me fall in love with this city. The clear blue skies and white clouds make me feel like a bird ready to fly.
As I grew up in this city I have seen it growing. From small army cantonment to a massive city which survived a massive earthquake in 2005 and numerous floods but nothing really has stopped it from growing. I saw a single road broadened into a four lane highway, bridges and underpasses being constructed. The traffic grew and so does the activity and it made me fall in love with the city even more. It gives me a freedom to be what I am. I walk around in the city with friends; we go shopping and explore the inner parts of the city. It’s a delight! The old architecture in the interior city, the beautiful old presidency which is now my university tells so many tales about the city only if you are willing to listen.
