Don Mills was one of the first suburbs based on the modern model ever built. Constructed in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the streetscape consists of what are now typical winding crescents and fast-moving arterial roads, connected by pedestrian pathways. Unlike many of today's tracts, the homes were well designed -- often back or side-splits -- and solidly built. Also different from some of Toronto's newer extended suburbs, Don Mills has a broad range of housing, from large detached houses to highrises, attracting residents from every socio-economic level.
